SHOT:
Everything wrong with government in one story....
Lack of preparedness for predictable emergencies.
Overspending out of desperation when confronted with said emergency.
Wasting taxpayer money by throwing away emergency supplies after the emergency.
When confronted about waste, blaming 'rules' for the waste instead of just changing the rules.
And finally, being left unprepared for future emergencies after wasting taxpayer money by getting rid of emergency supplies.
CHASER:
This isn't the first time. NYC auctioned off ventilators purchase after a 2006 flu epidemic scare. They couldn't keep them serviced, so, instead of buying replacements, they auctioned them off. Predictably, when COVID 19 hit, they needed ventilators for all those senior citizens they infected by putting active COVID cases in the convalescent hospitals. Not to worry, only 4500 dead old folks and the state paid a premium for the new ventilators once the COVID pandemic was well underway.
