Freedom of religion - not freedom from religion

Act of faith costs team victory

This is getting out of hand. All it takes is a brief review of the writings of the founding fathers to realize that they were all religious men who would have been appalled by the current state of affairs in this country. Madison wrote that this country could only survive if the citizens were religious and moral. He understood that a system of government that is so deeply invested in personal liberty requires morality and responsibility in order to survive. He further understood, as did all his contemporaries, that religion is and always has been the basis for morality of a culture.
It is not surprising that those who would seek the fundamental transformation of this country would attack all the underlying foundations of our culture. They seek to remove any form of religious expression from our public lives. These statists have twisted and warped the first amendment to the point where it would be unrecognizable to the founding fathers. The extol the basest form of human expression as freedom of speech and have replaced 'freedom OF religion' with 'freedom FROM religion'.
The founding fathers did not want, nor would they ever have envisioned, that religion be purged from public life. They wrote the 1st Amendment to prevent the establishment of a state religion. Prior to the establishment of our constitution, religion, monarchy and politics were deeply intertwined in the history of European conflict. The First Amendment allowed us to move beyond the linkage of the religion to the state, and in doing so, allowed us to live peaceably under elected officials of various denominations. That is just one of the great gifts that our constitution gave to our people and it has also served as a spark of hope and guiding light for other peoples around the world. At no time did the founding fathers expect that religion itself would be divorced from public life; just that no single faith would be officially tied to the state.

TX mayor tell atheists to go pound sand

Where so many others have knuckled under to appease intolerant atheists, the mayor of League City, Texas told them to go pack sand. 'Bout time.
Our founding fathers were all religious men who openly practiced their faith in the course of their civic responsibilities. They wrote the first amendment to our constitution to ensure freedom OF religion, not freedom from religion. They wanted to ensure that no single religion would become the state religion. They had seen how divisive that practice had been in Europe and had no desire to repeat the mistakes of others. They wanted a nation where no religion was preeminent and all were free to practice the religion of their choice. One thing, however, was obvious; they knew that in order for the system to work, the citizens must have a strong moral foundation. The core principles of our remarkable constitution are firmly rooted in Judeo-Christian beliefs. We can no more abandon the religious foundations of our nation than we can the notion that we all posses the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
