Thoughts on amnesty

Comprehensive immigration reform translates to amnesty

Amnesty and the Welfare State

Amnesty is a powerful incentive.....for illegal immigration

There is a lot of wishful thinking and outright dishonesty driving the amnesty debate. Republicans are in the midst of a grand self-deception; thinking that, if they support amnesty, somehow all those new Latino voters would miraculously shift to their side. This idea is beyond simple wishful thinking and enters the realm of fantasy. Reagan got 37% of the Hispanic vote in '84, but after he signed the Simpson-Mazzoli Amnesty into law Bush 41 only got 27%. Other than in 2000, the Republicans have never gotten 40% of the Latino vote. Polls following the 2012 election revealed that immigration is not the driving factor Latino voting patterns; it is government benefits. Seventy percent of Latinos said that promises of government benefits made them vote Democrat. This is hardly surprising given that most Latino immigrants come from countries that have no meaningful middle class, endemic poverty and governments that exercise significant control over their economies. The majority come to this country with poor educations and limited skills. These people are easily trapped into government dependency and that suits the Democrats just fine. Democrats owe their power to appealing to 'victim' groups. They claim to support these 'victim' groups, but all they do is lock them into a lifetime of victimization and poverty. They are given just enough government handouts to keep them alive and voting for politicians who promise them stuff, but they are not given the skills and incentives to lift themselves out of poverty. They are kept on the Democrat dependency plantation with the African-Americans.

This is another situation where the easy path leads to failure and the difficult path leads to a stronger country. The difficult path is to sell the American way to the legal immigrants. Most people come to the United States because this country offers the opportunity to achieve economic success. The problem is that the schools, the media and popular culture don't teach the underlying reason for the economic opportunity that this country provides. Rather than acknowledging the role of individual freedom, backed by the rule of law as the engine of economic prosperity, the left focuses on only the benefits of pre-existing prosperity. They teach that government provides a social safety net; ignoring that it is only a robust, healthy economy can enable such largess (and that for only a limited period of time). We need to show new immigrants that America can provide them with the opportunity for success only if we support traditional American values and culture. It isn't just immigrants that need to be taught this important lesson. The last several generations of Americans, victims of public education and a biased news media, need to learn the fundamentals of American prosperity.

Malkin - Dissecting the Gang of 8's enforcement sham

Anytime you hear a liberal (Dem or RINO) use the term comprehensive to describe any sort of reform bill, you should immediately assume that they are spewing BS. Comprehensive is the new political phrase de jour that means politicians are getting what they want by adding a little window dressing to a politically unpopular bill.

Waivers would nullify immigration bill's enforcement provisions

This is why we should not have any sort of 'comprehensive' immigration reform. Let's secure the borders first. Maybe if we build a fence and sensor network along the full length of the border, have at least five years of verifiable interdiction of at least 95% of illegal border crossers and mount a significant interior enforcement campaign, maybe, maybe then I would be willing to entertain talk of some sort of guest worker program. Any sort of legalization without first securing the borders is just insane. That has been done before. The Simpson-Mazolli immigration control act of 1986 promised increased borders security in exchange for amnesty of 3 million illegals. The amnesty was immediate, but 20 million illegals have entered the country since it's passage because the border was never secured. We cannot repeat that massive fraud that was forced on the American people.

The true cost of amnestied illegals

Comprehensive immigration reform is just a new way to describe amnesty without enforcement. And it's going to cost you and your country dearly. Remember, these numbers are based on 11 million illegals granted amnesty. Since the Simpson-Mazoli amnesty granted citizenship to far more than originally projected, I think it's safe to say that, before this abomination is done we will have upwards of 15 million new 'citizens' who don't give a rat's ass about being an American, but are more than happy to accept public benefits. Can somebody please give me any sort of logical explanation why we cannot secure our borders and work on internal enforcement FIRST before we ever start to discuss legalization or amnesty? That's right; you can't. There is no logical reason; only political reasons. Politicians of both parties are more concerned with their political fortunes than with our security, national heritage or our future.
