My boss is a d!ck

D-Bag boss.  Everybody can relate to that

At one time or another everybody likely has had a boss who was a jerk.  Some bosses just aren't good people.  Face it; you know the type.  He could be the knob polisher who spends most of his working hours  kissing up to the company power brokers.  She might be the type who makes all sorts of promises and never delivers.  Maybe it was the guy who always took credit when things went well and threw you under the bus when they went south.  How about the one who copes with her feelings of inadequacy by always denigrating others?  It could be the lazy bastard who leaves early every day and dumps his work off on you.  The thing is, if you have worked for any length of time you have had to deal with this.  It makes going to work a chore and something to dread.  If it goes on long enough you will do anything for a change.

I once worked for a real loser at a trucking company.  The man was a compulsive gambler, a liar and a cheat.  He would promise customers service that we had little chance of providing, then gamble that he could somehow dispatch the drivers in such a way as to meet all the appointment times.  All of his plans were predicated on everything going right, no traffic, loads available, all the paperwork being correct and so on.  Every day as he set appointments and scheduled drivers he created in his head a fantasy world where nothing went wrong and everything turned out alright at the end of the day.  Sure as hell, every morning the plan would go to crap with the first deliveries of the day.  All the fancy plans that looked so good on the dispatch board in the office would fall apart when exposed to the harsh light of reality.  Then the chaos would start.  In spite of the growing delays with each move, he would refuse to call the customers and let them know that our drivers would be late.  He would just sit there staring at the dispatch board, hoping that somehow the driver would get there on time.  He was practically delusional.  He wasn't just lying to the customers, it soon become apparent that he was lying to himself.  This gathering chaos would build throughout the day and then at 3 o'clock he would grab his stuff and head home.  We would be left to deal with the irate customers who were paying lumpers to sit around waiting for our drivers to arrive.  All day long this guy had been promising everything to everybody and then, when the crapstorm broke loose he would walk out and let us take the heat.  This guy also cheated the drivers every chance he got.  He would promise them one rate and then pay them something less.  Every week he would short their pay and then take off early on Friday; leaving us to handle pissed off drivers.  At his best he was a petty little man, at worst he was a vindictive bastard who would cut off his nose to spite his face.  He never understood why our best drivers would get frustrated and quit.  He didn't understand why customers eventually become former customers.  He lived only in the moment and would not recognize that his actions had repercussions.

I've been looking at what has been happening in Washington, DC the last ten days and I am absolutely appalled.  I'm not seeing a president who is up to the task.  I'm not seeing a president who rises to the stature of the office.  I'm not seeing any leadership.  What I am seeing is a petty little man who is not that much different than the general manager of the crappy little trucking company I worked for.  A small man with a failed plan who is not willing to take responsibility for his mistakes.  I am seeing a thin-skinned, vindictive man who will deliberately hurt others in order to get his way. What I am not seeing is an American President.  All I see is a guy who is like my old boss.......and my boss was a dick.
