The drone medal

This might not mean anything to you if you weren't in the military, but listen up, anyway. The idea that the Pentagon would authorize a medal for drone operators is not that big of a deal. They have played an important part in the GWOT (oops, can't call it that anymore....Obama doesn't want us offending the terrorists). Drone operators are commissioned officers who are in competition with real aviators for promotions and good billets, so they need some chest candy to level the playing field. They are also very sensitive to the fact that real aviators who put their lives on the line while taking the war to the enemy make fun of them. So I guess it makes sense to throw 'em a bone occasionally. What is absolutely not OK is that the Pentagon weenies would rank the Distinguished Warfare Medal higher in the order of precedence than the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. This is an insult to all those who actually fought the enemy, in-country, face to face; not from 10,000 miles away while sitting in an air conditioned trailer and sipping on a frosty Coke. It is also an insult to all warriors who have been wounded fighting for their country. What injury does a drone operator risk; a hand cramp, deep vein thrombosis from sitting on his ass for an 8 hour shift, maybe he'll catch a cold if the A/C is too cold? Don't let this injustice stand. Sign the petition and maybe even call your congressional representative. That is all. Carry on.
